Crying to Calm – Miracle Blanket Contest

April 24, 2009

Miracle blanket is currently running a contest called Crying to Calm. What they would like is for you to take a short video of your little one going from fussy and unhappy to peaceful and serene by you shooting a video of your LO as you are wrapping them. It does not have to be at night you could do it in the day if you so choose rather then having the video camera out at bedtime. Quality is not super important, but it has to be a continuous roll with no cuts, transitions, edits so we can see the actual, real-time effect of the Miracle Blanket.

The grand prize in this contest is 500 dollars, second place gets $100 and third gets $50.

For complete rules you can go here: http://www.miracleblanket.com/images/VideoContest.gif

I am encouraging you all to participate in the contest, I know I will be.

Holdens birth story

April 12, 2009

So here is my birthstory may be kinda long and boring.
Woke up at like 5 am i couldn’t sleep i was too excited about the prospect of meeting our new lil man. Called the hospital at 6:30 am and was told to come on in. So we went in for 7:30 got hooked up they monitored the baby for a bit to get a strip of his heartrate.

My doctor came in at like 8:00 or so and checked, my cervix was 1 cm dilated and 3 cm longshe said i was not favorable and if they were busy she would send me home with no choices given but because they were empty she said i could stay to go ahead but risked a 50% chance of a section. We decided to go ahead and stay, so my doc put in a cervical foley (a foley catheter inserted into the cervix and inflated once you reach 3 cm dilated it falls out). She said it should fall out at suppertime and she woudl see me then. Three hours later it fell out at 1:00. But i was not dilated to the full three i was more 2 cm and stretchy.

At 1:00 she broke my water and they put up the pitocin drip at 2 pm. Labor didn’t really start til 7 pm (took my body a bit to figure out what was supposed to be going on). The contractions got good and strong at 7 pm and by 11 i couldn’t breathe through the contractions anymore and decided i couldn’t do this and wasn’t going to have a baby lol. at 11:40 i told them i felt really strong pressure and i had to push, my doc came in and i still had a lip so she held it back during a couple of contractions then she had me push. I pushed about 6 times and baby Holden Alexander Gordon was born at 11:50 pm weighing in at 7 lbs 5 ozs. 21 1/2″ long. He has really long feet, and fingers and superlong fingers nails and the most beautiful blonde hair.

I put him to breast at birth and he latched and is eating like a champ which is amazing now heres hoping i get good milk.

Here are a couple of pictures of him.

Life with a new baby

April 6, 2009

Is so not always fun lol. I am exhausted, although he sleeps decently ok at night he has to sleep with me or will not sleep at all. I have a bassinet and a moses basket for him and he wakes up the second he is layed in either, i put him in my bed and he sleeps the night away. I think it is time for mommy to go buy a bouncy seat and see if he will sleep in there.

I am not a co-sleeper, i see nothing wrong with it but it is a habit that i refuse to start and something that is so not for my family. But the last two days he has left me no choice because the only way i can sleep is with him in our bed which i must say is convienent for nursing lol.

This post is really going nowhere just wanted to write it out.

On a good note though my milk came in last night and i am so proud i was able to pump about 1/2 an oz in about 5 min just to see lol. I know this does not seem like a big deal but with my 19 month old daughter i struggled everyday every feed for the first six months of her life to eclusive breastfeed her. When i pumped it would take 20-30 min just to cover the bottom of the bottle on the pump so this is a huge thing for me and i just hope my supply keeps up. Although i do have a script for a drug that will help my supply if i need it.

On the bright side last night he had his first bath at home and we used his bath luve and he loved it and stopped crying as soon as i put it on him.

Itzbeen Baby Care Timer Giveaway – ENDED

April 5, 2009

Oh my word what a life saver this has been. As some of you know my husband and I had our fourth baby, a boy, on Thursday April 2nd. Needless to say i have been slightly sleep deprieved, forgetting which way is up lol.

I have always been a very lax parent and don’t rely on books and timers to tell me to do something. But when i seen the Itzbeen Baby Care Timer I knew I had to try it. I am so glad i emailed them to request to do a review.

The ITZBEEN has 5 awesome timers, a great backlight for using in the night, a slider to put on whichever side your baby nursed from last, and a great little light.

TheITZBEEN keeps track of the last time you chged your baby’s diaper, fed him/her, put baby to sleep, and it also has a bonus timer you can use for whatever other thing you need, I am currently using it to ttrack when i take my pain medication last because i am constantly forgetting.

This timer has for sure been a lifesaver, and although we had a slight problem trying to get the battery cover off with the belt clip not being removable once we did and got the batteries in we were so amazed at how much stress this took off both my husband and I. The timer comes in three colors pink, blue and green so you can get one for either gender or for the surprise baby who either didn’t want to show or you didn’t want to know the sex of.

ITZBEEN Baby Care Timer was developed by a new mom and dad who found themselves sleep-deprived and needing help to remember baby care details, such as when their baby last ate or napped. They tried charts and journals, but thought there had to be a better way. So, they created the ITZBEEN: a multi-purpose nursery tool that helps new parents remember the basic details of baby care.

BUY ONE: You can head over to coast innovations and buy one of these amazing little timers for 25.99
